About us and this role

Citizens Advice Bournemouth Christchurch & Poole gives free, confidential and impartial advice to around 15,000 people a year, from 4 offices across the area. We’re here for everyone, and our values are to be inventive, generous and responsible.

In this role, you’ll help people manage their money, increase their income and plan ahead. You won’t give regulated debt advice, but you’ll spot debt issues and refer people to specialist help.

What you’ll do

  • Manage a caseload of clients who need ongoing support with their money.
  • Help clients build the skills and confidence to budget and make informed choices.
  • Increase clients’ income through benefit checks, better-off calculations, grants and tax code checks.
  • Prepare financial statements and help clients prioritise essential bills.
  • Refer clients to other services when needed, and follow safeguarding procedures.
  • Keep accurate records and collect the information our funders need.
  • Build links with partner organisations and attend outreach and community events.

What you’ll bring

We value skills from any setting, including paid work, volunteering and life experience.

Essential

  • Experience of helping people with budgeting, money guidance or increasing their income.
  • Experience of supporting people through financial difficulty or other hard times.
  • Knowledge of welfare benefits and ways to increase income.
  • The ability to prepare financial statements and help people plan their finances.
  • Clear spoken and written communication, including keeping accurate records.
  • The ability to manage a caseload, prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Confidence using computers and case recording systems.
  • Good teamwork and a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

Desirable, but not required: experience in an advice service, a relevant qualification (such as money guidance or welfare benefits), knowledge of local support services, and experience of running workshops or outreach.

If you don’t meet every point, please still apply.

What we offer

25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, ongoing training and supervision, employer pension contributions, an Employee Assistance Programme, wellbeing resources and our Life Leave policy.
